The first game of the season saw Crymych and Carmarthen Atheltic finishing 8th and 9th last year and the final result was probably a true reflection of the tight game. And it was Crymych who made a great start to this new campaign as they beat Carmarthen Athletic on their own turf, which is no mean feat in itself as few sides win at the Athletic Field.

Crymych had the best of the opening period and they were soon in front when Sam Phillips playing at Fly Half side stepped his way past their Fly Half to score a try under the posts and Rhys ‘Chainsaw’ Davies converted (7-0) Crymych went on to score another try minutes later when their number 8 missed the up and under and the Debutant Joe Powell chasing the ball, caught the ball on the bounce to run 30yards to score in the corner (14-0) which Rhys ‘Chainsaw’ Davies converted once again.

Crymych continued to have the upper hand and leading the way were brothers Tom and Joe Powell alongside Rhys ‘Biki’ Davies in the back row and great work from them secured the ball to Dyfan Dafydd as Rhys ‘Chainsaw’ Davies was in the sin bin for 10minutes and a perfectly worked cross-kick by Sam Phillips reached Tom Turner to score his first try for the club, also on his Debut at Full Back, this time, Sam Phillips missing the conversion. (19-6) and with half-time looming the supporters thought that there would be more tries for the away team but Carmarthen Athletic went straight upfield and they were awarded a penalty on the 22m line and once again kicked it over to leave the score 19 - 9 at half time in Crymych’s favour.

The game flowed end to end with both teams trying to exploit any weaknesses in each other's defences with Crymych going for the bonus point but Carmarthen Athletic were the first to get points on the board when they were awarded a penalty when Crymych’s flanker Tom Powell  was caught coming in from the side to receive a yellow card and Athletic’s young Full Back converted once again (19-12) With both teams now down to 13 men due to a tackle in the air, Rhys ‘Chainsaw’ Davies opened Crymych’s account in the second half to secure a penalty from 30yards (22-12) Crymych nearly scored the only try of the second half but Tom Powell’s butter fingers following great play by Rhys ’Biki’ Davies. The losing bonus point too Carmarthen Athletic was again in the balance as Rhys ‘Biki’ Davies got sin binned to finish the game with 14men and Carmarthen Athletic once again slotted it home (22-15) With minutes of the game left the result was in the balance but Crymych then showed their defensive qualities and managed to keep Carmarthen Athletic for most of the period and the game ended to give Crymych the win and Carmarthen Athletic picked up a losing bonus point.
