Tomi takes Preseli Men to last-gasp win

Amman United 25 - Crymych 29 A last-gasp try from hooker Aled Harries ensured Crymych maintained their superb winning run at Amman United on Wednesday night, a midweek victory that owed much to the clinical form of winger Tomi Jones, who notched his second hat trick in as many games as the visitors fought back from 25-17 down in the closing stages. The Preseli Men spent much of the early parts of the season in the lower half of the table, but after seven consecutive league wins, now just need a solitary bonus point from their game against Newcastle Emlyn on May 16 to secure a top-four finish. It was the already-relegated Amman who struck first when Adrian Thomas landed a penalty – but then Jones darted over in the corner for his first try of the evening before Douglas Jenkins restored Amman’s lead with a try that Thomas converted – but Crymych No 8 Joe Powell ensured the teams went in 10-10 at the break as he powered over for an unconverted try. Action aplenty in second half Early in the second half, winger Jones grabbed his second corner try, despite home protests that he had put a foot in touch, and winger Gavin Thomas added the extras. But the end to end action continued when Gavin Lewis sniped over for the home side, and they were then back in front when Sean Mangan crossed for another unconverted score - and when Liam Smith crossed to increase the home lead to 25-17, Amman seemed set to end a difficult season with a win. But the Preseli Men refused to cave in, and Jones gave them hope when he completed his treble to reduce the deficit to three points. And then with the last play of the game, hooker Harries ploughed over for a score that Thomas converted – meaning Crymych have now not lost a league game since their defeat at Kidwelly on 7th February. And they could yet have a major say in the destination of the league title, when they host an Emlyn side who are currently sitting in second place, and need six points from their final two games to knock Kidwelly off top spot.
