Crymych produced a superb all-round team performance to beat second-placed Felinfoel and cause the surprise result of the day since the home side are favourites for promotion but were unable to hold off the determined visitors. The win was even more creditable because the Preseli Men were only 6-5 ahead at half time with the prospect of 40 minutes playing into the strong wind and heavy rain – but they collectively rolled up their sleeves to take the precious points. Felinfoel had clawed their way back to 11-all with only five minutes remaining but then the Crymych pack mounted one last offensive to score an unconverted try by No 8 Joe Powell and then the whole team defended like demons to move themselves another step away from the relegation zone.
Scrum half Luke Rogers gave Crymych an early lead with a penalty after strong work by his front row of Lewis Davies, Aled Harries and Scott Jenkins, ably assisted by Andrew Phillips and Joe Powell. Felinfoel responded with an unconverted try by No 8 Laurence Reynolds but Richard Sharp-Williams and Rhys Davies set up the platform for a second Rogers’ penalty before the break.
The second period was no less hard-fought and although winger Nick Bevan continued his run of try scoring by racing over in the corner, two penalties by home fly half Aled Roberts tied things up. But there was some excellent covering at the back by Carwyn James, Dylan Thomas, Tomi Jones and Dan Davies before that late try by Joe Powell saw the Preseli Men through to a deserved victory! Crymych: Carwyn James: Dylan Thomas; Tomi Jones; Sion Davies; Nick Bevan: Carwyn Jones; Luke Rogers: Lewis Davies; Aled Harries; Scott Jenkins: Andrew Phillips; Joe Powell: Richard Sharp-Williams; Rhys Davies; Tom Powell. Replacements: Trystan Griffiths; Rhys Richards; Dan Davies; Dyfan Dafydd.
