Crymych Youth cruised through to the last eight in the Welsh Youth Cup after they beat Abergavenny at Parc Lloyd Thomas with speedy winger Rhodri George running in for a hat trick of tries.
The hosts started as if they wanted to get this game in the bag as soon as possible and charged at their opponents from the off and they turned pressure into points in the opening minutes when outside half Jac Davies landed a penalty.
A try soon followed when William Lloyd Morgan skipped over after excellent work by his well -drilled pack who are coached by former Wales and Neath hooker Kevin Phillips but Abergavenny hit back with an interception try after a long pass was intercepted and this was converted.
Fly half Davies, who controlled matters well behind a dominant set of forwards, added another penalty before George crossed for his second try which was converted by Davies and the visitors were struggling to defend against the very strong Crymych ball carriers with centres Phillips and Osian Davies in particular causing huge problems and regularly punching holes in the Aber midfield along with number eight Iwan Davies and blind side Llyr Evans.
Winger George added the third home try just before half time and the conversion by Davies put Crymych almost out of sight at 25-7.
Full back Osian Edwards scored the try of the game early on in the second half following some excellent movement and a superb angle from the last line of defence and he and his team pulled out of sight with a try from centre Ifan Phillps and this was due reward for a very good individual performance.
Further tries followed through George who completed his hat trick with Abergavenny claiming a consolation try for their efforts.
Coaches Kevin Phillips and Tudor Harries will have been pleased with the overall performance of their team but they will be well aware that there are some far better teams waiting for them in the next round. However they won’t mind who they draw out especially if it is at home.
